Rain only enables half of Malaysian GP.

We were hoping that there would be no need for the F1 stewards to determine the final results of today's race.  Well we got our wish, the stewards didn't interfere, but mother nature did.

The race started out well, with Nico Rosberg coming off the start line cleanly and quickly taking the lead.  However, we could all see that the menacing dark clouds above would sooner or later have a say in the outcome of the race.

The rain started to fall close to half way through the amount of laps needed to finish the race.  Kimi Raikkonen was the first to change to wet tyres, well in advance of everyone else, trying to  gain an advantage before all the other drivers came into the pit lane.  It's a shame that he still finished last, at 14th place, out of the cars that didn't end up out of the race.

After everyone had changed to wet tyres, we witnessed an interesting overtaking duel between Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber.  Mark Webber came out on top in that duel, later hearing Hamilton saying that his car had problems in 5th gear.  Hamilton finished in 7th place, Webber in 6th.

Sebastien Vettel and Robert Kubica suffered the same fate as last week's race in Australia, not being able to finish the race.  Only this time Vettel spun out when it was raining, while Kubica's engine bay caught fire well before it started to rain.

The safety car was deployed when it really began to pour with rain, at this point Jenson Button was in the lead with Nick Heidfeld following close at 2nd place and Timo Glock in 3rd.  The race was then stopped after the conditions were deemed unsafe for racing, those left in the race assembling at the start/finish line. After nearly an hour of waiting the race was abandoned all together.

Half the points were awarded to the drivers, since they did not complete 75% of the race.  The next race will be in two weeks at China's Shanghai International Circuit.  All we can hope for this time is for a dry, steward-free race.

Brawn GP back on Pole for tomorrow's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Jenson Button has managed to claim pole position again for the second race of the 2009 Formula 1 season.  It seemed like we were going to witness another 1-2 pole position for the Brawn GP drivers, but Toyota's Jarno Trulli managed get in the way of that, snatching second place on the starting grid. Sebastien Vettel will start at third place, while Button's team mate, Rubens Barrichello, will start fourth on the grid.

Last week's race was not a great one for Lewis Hamilton, he managed to finish in fourth place starting from 18th on the grid, but got disqualified after  it was found that he provided false information to the stewards at Melbourne.  Tomorrow, Hamilton will again be starting further down the grid at 13th place, while Felippe Massa starts at 16th place.  Fernando Alonso finds himself in 10th position, and will be following Kimi Raikkonen very closely at 9th position.

The race starts at 17:00 hrs Malaysian time, and if it is anything as unpredictable as last week's race, it will surely turn out to be an exciting one.  We just hope that there wont be any need for the stewards to be involved in the final results.

What a turn of events.  We all knew that the changes made to the F1 cars would rearrange the starting grid and and indeed who would end up winning.  But it still comes as a surprise to see Jenson Button on pole position for tommorrow's race at Melbourne.  Considering the past few seasons haven't exactly been favourable for the British driver, and the fact that he and his team mate Rubens Barrichello are racing for the all new racing team Brawn GP, it comes as a fantastic start to both Button and the new team.

21 year old Sebastien Vettel takes third place on the starting grid, with Robert Kubica taking fourth while Nico Rosberg grabs fifth place.  As for the 2008 Driver's Champion, Lewis Hamilton, we see him placed at a very low fifteenth place thanks to some gearbox problems. On the other hand Felipe Massa is further up the grid at seventh place, Jarno Trulli at eighth, and Kimi Raikonnen in ninth place.

Tommorow promises to be a very interesting race, do not miss it.
