The new Mazda MX-5 is here, complete with Mazda’s KODO design theme and some weight reduction.
Mazda claims that the new soft-top MX-5 weighs 100kg less than the outgoing MX-5 – meaning it weighs approximately 1-tonne. The fourth-generation MX-5 is equipped with SKYACTIV technology, which includes SKYACTIV-G petrol engines and the first adaptation of SKYACTIV-Chassis on a rear-wheel drive Mazda.
In 25 years of production, Mazda have made 947,000 MX-5s. Mazda haven’t released any information on engine and performance specification, nor have they given any details on pricing and market launch dates, but more information should be soon available when production car development has been finalized.
I was never planning on writing anything about this rental car, and as such I didn’t pack my SLR camera as I left for vacation to North America. But such was the driving experience that I had to make do with my smartphone, and at least write a little something. Also, the fifth-generation Mustang recently went out of production after nearly ten years of service. So in short, this is my goodbye to the best generation of Mustangs yet.
