To celebrate 30 years of the M5, BMW have unveiled the most powerful M5 yet, the special edition “30 Jahre M5”. The 30 Jahre M5 is limited to only 300 examples, and will come equipped with the same twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 as the standard M5, but with power rated at 600hp – making it 40hp more powerful, and with torque rated at 700Nm (516 lb-ft). Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 3.9 seconds, while top speed is limited to 250km/h (305km/h with optional M Driver’s Package). The claimed combined fuel economy and CO2 figures are 9.9l/100km and 231g/km. The extra power has come thanks to revisions made to the engine management system, as well as by increasing turbo boost pressure. The 30 Jahre M5 also comes standard with the Competition Package (optional on the standard M5), meaning the car comes with: a revised chassis set-up with firmer spring/damper tuning, a 10mm lower ride height, a new control unit for the Active M Differential to improve traction, a more direct mapping for the Servotronic steering system, and a revised DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) to deliver sportier handling characteristics.
Frozen Dark Silver metallic is the only paint scheme that will be found on this special edition car. Other unique exterior features will include “30 Jahre M5” badges on the front wing, while the door handle inserts and tailpipes will have a black chrome finish. The car will also be equipped with 20-inch bi-colour M alloy wheels with mixed tyres – with the fronts measuring 265/35 ZR 20 and the rears measuring 295/35 ZR 20. As for the interior, the “30 Jahre M5” badges will also appear on the front door sill and the backrests of all four seats. There will also be a “1/300” engraving on the Aluminium Trace trim strip on the front passenger’s side to commemorate the number of 30 Jahre M5s being made. The seats will be covered in black alcantara/leather, while the steering wheel and centre console will be covered in Alcantara Anthracite. Owners will also get a 16-speaker surround sound system, with a choice of either a 600-watt Harman Kardon system or a 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen system. |
