With 2012 just days away from ending, we can only hope that 2013 will have as many exciting new cars as this year did. Here is a gallery of 22 cars that made a good first impression. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Say goodbye to the 3-Series coupe and hello to the 4-Series. There is no information on engine choices, but it will most likely use engines from the 3-Series sedan. With a nice, sleek design, the 4-Series looks set to be a big seller, and this week's standout car. Like most car enthusiasts, when I see a car on the street that catches my attention, chances are I will end up going online to look at how much a second-hand one costs. So having recently seen a 'black-on-black' BMW 645ci (E63) with a rather nice-sounding aftermarket exhaust, I spent a good bit of time on used car websites trying to find out how much little money can get you one, and on YouTube to see which aftermarket exhaust makes it sound best.
The 2003-2010 6-Series was introduced when BMW’s design department was under Chris Bangle. It made use of a reincarnated version of BMW’s distinct ‘shark nose’ for the front, a rather odd-looking rear end, and a few Bangle-style creases here and there – making today’s pretty-looking F10 6-Series look rather conservative in comparison. Although it didn’t have the sharp lines of some of Bangle’s other designs, the E63 definitely had some visual impact. The 2012 Geneva Motor Show is anything but short of exciting new cars. There are far too many cool cars to have them all posted here, but with more than 100 photos, it's more than just a taste of what the show has to offer. Make sure you come back next week for the ultimate standouts of the show.
Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG Mercedes Benz has splashed details on its new SL63 AMG roadster, prior to an unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new SL63 AMG continues making use of a folding metal roof, but the whole car now weighs 125kg less (at 1845kg) than its predecessor, thanks in part by making use of an all-aluminium body. Another new feature is the twin-turbo 537hp (or 564hp with the AMG Performance pack) 5.5-litre V8 engine found in other hot AMGs like the E, S, CL, CLS, and M-Class. Audi RS4 One of our station wagon favourites has come back from a four-year break – the Audi RS4.
It will be available in station wagon form only, as Audi now claims that buyers are moving away from high-powered saloons. Power comes from the same 4.2-litre V8 engine as the RS5, meaning a power output of 450hp, with torque rated at 430Nm (317lb ft). It will also get the same seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic transmission as the RS5, with the 0-62mph time being reached in 4.7 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 155mph. _ BMW is finishing the year off in style with this four-door version of the 6-Series, the 6-Series Gran Coupe. So far, only Mercedes Benz and Audi have been battling it out in the luxury German four-door coupe section with the CLS and A7. However, like these cars, the 6-Series Gran Coupe shall come equipped with turbocharged petrol engines and a diesel option. In petrol guises, the Gran Coupe shall be available as either a 640i, 650i or 650i xDrive (the latter being all-wheel drive), while the diesel option will be the 640d. All petrol versions are turbocharged, with the 640i being powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine producing 320hp and 332lb ft of torque, while the 650i versions are powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine producing 450hp and 479lb ft of torque. The 640d makes use of a 3.0-litre straight-six as well, but produces 313hp and an impressive 465lb ft of torque from 1500 rpm to 2500 rpm. BMW has just released new footage of its M5 super saloon. In case you've forgotten, it comes equipped with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 560hp, and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Acceleration from 0-60mph takes 4.4sec, while top speed is limited to 155mph (250km/h). The best news of the week comes in the form of BMW confirming plans to make a new BMW M3 CSL. According to Autocar, the new CSL will be unveiled in June at the Nurbrurgring 24-Hour race, and will use a slightly modified version of the 420hp 4.0-litre V8 engine found in the standard coupe. The CSL will come with exclusive exterior features such as different bumpers and wheels, while also carrying modifications to the suspension and less weight than the standard car. BMW M enthusiasts will no doubt be delighted about the CSL making a comeback, especially after the slightly disappointing and very expensive GTS. Alex Kisiri The new BMW 6 series coupe finally joins its sibling, the 6 series convertible, four months after its reveal. Like the convertible, the 6 series coupe will initially be available as a 650i or a 640i (a diesel and M6 variant are still expected), with the 650i having a 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 engine, while the 640i has a turbocharged 3.0 litre inline six. Power and torque figures are quoted at 407 hp and 443lb ft (600 nm) of torque for the 650i, while the 640i produces 320 hp at 5800 rpm and 332lb ft (450 nm). |
